So, I'm back.
Photography-wise, I was never really gone actually. I've been taking photos all the time, however they did not end up on this blog anymore. This was mainly due to the fact that I pretty much stopped using my trusty DSLR for photography, switching to the one camera I always have with me – my iPhone.
At that time, the iPhone's camera quality had developed to a point where it seemed almost on par with the quality of my good old Canon EOS 400D, at least subjectively and in most of the situations that I use my camera. What the iPhone lacked in flexibility and options for manually controlling its camera's settings, it made up in size and weight, and soon I found myself using my Canon less and less, up to a point where it only collected dust on my shelf.
Yet, using an iPhone never really felt like real photography to me. Thus, it seemed somehow wrong to display them on this blog and so I stopped posting.
Fast-forward to this year's spring, when I was asked to do some car photography – something I really used to enjoy, and something I needed to clean the dust off of my Canon for. Maybe you already guessed what happened next – it was instantly hooked again and shortly afterwards bought a new EOS 80D.
While I like the ease and lightness of an iPhone, feeling the weight and the flexibility of a semi-professional camera again really is something else. So I started taking my hobby more serious again, and now that I'm back in the game, my blog needed an update, too.
Since PixelPost, the software this blog used to run on has not seen an update for over four years, I sought out for an alternative and found Koken, which is a difference of night and day in terms of functionality and flexibility. This allowed me to also chance the global theme of this blog. Rather than posting one single photo every other month, I'm now planning on displaying a broader variety of my work, maybe even dedicated albums of specific events / photography subjects. Also, I can create text posts like this one as well, so maybe I'll also throw in the occasional photography-related blog post. And did I mention that all of my images now are viewable in much higher resolutions?
With this change, I believe it is also the right time to cut off some old strings, meaning not all of my photos get to move to this new blog. I started this blog almost ten years ago, and while this still is just a hobby and I still have a lot to learn in terms of photography, I believe my skills have improved quite a bit, making the old photos feel somehow out of place now.
So, here's to at least ten more years of photography and this blog. I hope you stick around, it's gonna be awesome!
